Legacy and Africa

Legacy

It's vitally important that corporate South Africa is seen to be helping to get the benefits of the 2010 FIFA World Cup to the poorer communities - so any African type gifts, please try and source them from the rural communities, and please don't be shy about letting them know that corporate South Africa is helping the poorer communities!

Other Legacies that can be left behind are... an improvement in the battle against crime (due to all the technological security improvements that are being put in place for the world cup) a huge increase in tourism, due to the massive TV exposure during the world cup, and due to the improvement in the fight against crime.

Africa

There is a major concern that if Bafana Bafana (South African national soccer team) are knocked out in the first round, then the tournament will flop. I don't believe so - firstly, both the hosts Austria and Switzerland were knocked out of the Euro 08 champs in the first round, and it was still a great tournament; and secondly, it's vital for South Africans to support all African countries as this is an African world cup, and we also have to show solidarity with our neighbours in Africa after the terrible happenings of Xenaphobia in early 2008.

Other ways in which Africa will be involved:
- accommodation, especially Mozambique and Angola (Portuguese speaking), Namibia (German), Botswana and Zambia - close and stunning countries to visit
- chefs/waiter
- transport
- languages
- organisers

FIFA are currently building 20 soccer centres in 20 African countries on the continent, in a bid to leave a lasting soccer legacy
