Confed Cup
Despite lots of negativity before the Confederations cup, this event turned out to be a great success and showed the world that South Africa can host big events. The stadiums looked great, security was fine, and the football was magnificent. There were a few half empty stadiums early on, but that was quickly solved, and there were also some transport and logistical problems around some of the stadiums, particularly Ellis Park. But this only serves to help the authorities focus on the massive task of meeting the transport requirements around the World Cup, which is a huge event in comparison.
The memories that were left behind for the world to enjoy were stadiums full of happy and colourful fans, the acceptance of the noisy but fun vuvuzela, the appearance of miners hats with designs (called Makarapa) and also the Idiski dancing, a special local dance which incorporates football moves.
